Manhattan Beach’s first live music tennis tournament, “What’s That Racquet?” will be held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Live Oak Park. Cost of the coed doubles charity tournament is $50 per team with proceeds benefitting the Jon Wilhite Recovery Fund. Wilhite, of Manhattan Beach, was the lone survivor in the auto accident that took the life of Henry Pearson, Courtney Stewart and L.A. Angel pitcher Nick Adenhart. Men’s and women’s flag 5-on-5 football tournaments on the beach are slated for Saturday at 10 a.m. at 10th & The Strand in Hermosa Beach. Former Redondo Union High School and USC standout Kevin Ellison signed a four-year contract with the San Diego Chargers. The 6-foot-1, 220 lb. former Sea Hawk holds the school’s rushing record but played safety at USC. He was a sixth-round pick by the Chargers and will vie for playing time at strong safety and special teams. The Chargers open their pre-season schedule with a home game against the Seattle Seahawks Saturday, Aug. 15.

South Bay Promotions will hold its second Boxing at the Beach event Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd. Featuring heavyweight Lance “Mount” Whitaker, the event will also include South Bay native John Ellis Jr. who won his pro debut last month, Redondo Beach MMA fighter Sean “The Destroyer” Loeffler and female powerhouse Tatina “Tiny Tyson” Anderson.
