Running
Registration is open for the 16th Annual Village Runner 4th of July 5K Run/Walk. The race begins at 8 a.m. in front of Village Runner, 1881-A Catalina Ave., Redondo Beach. The event also includes the Little Moon Firecracker Dash for kids. Cost is $25, kids’ dash $15. Add $5 after June 27. Medals awarded to top three in each age division. Cycling
The 48th Annual Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix will be held Sunday, June 28 beginning at 7 a.m. at Live Oak Park. One of the west coast’s oldest and most prestigious cycling street races features a thousand top cyclists racing the oval on Valley and Ardmore between 15th Street and Pacific. The popular community races feature divisions for the kids. Registration information is available at mbgp.com.

Paddleboarding
The 2009 Rock 2 Rock paddleboard race, organized by George Loren of the Koffee Kart in Manhattan Beach, will be held Sunday. Over 100 paddleboarders and stand-up paddlers are expected to participate in the solo and relay divisions. Entry forms are available at Paddleboard.com and Eatonsurf.com.

Football
The California Lynx continue their inaugural season in the Women’s Football Alliance with a 7 p.m. contest Saturday against the Southern Arizona SheDevils at Mira Costa High School’s Waller Stadium. For more information, visit callynxfootball.vicid.net.

Volleyball
The California Beach Volleyball Association hosts a day-long tournament adjacent to the Manhattan Beach Pier on Saturday. Action features schedule Men’s A and B and Women’s A divisions. The 7th Annual Extreme Volleyball Professionals (EVP) Hermosa Open begins at 7 a.m. Saturday with top male and female teams from all over the country competing for a purse of $2,500. An amateur tournament, open to local teams, will be hosted concurrently. Tickets are on sale for local AVP Crocs Tour events. The Manhattan Beach Open presented by Bud Light will be held July 16-19 with courtside seats available for $50. Soccer
The first of two Brit-West soccer camps begins Monday at Franklin Field, 850 Inglewood Ave. in Redondo Beach. Half-day sessions (9 a.m.-noon) are open to boys and girls 4-12 years old and cost $125. Summer Camps
Velocity Sports Performance is hosting a Speed & Agility Camp beginning Monday and running through July 24. Coaches train athletes to improve speed and agility, develop explosive power and reduce likelihood of injury using a proven version of Nike SPARQ training. Basketball
The HAX Basketball Academy will hold its Premier Advanced College Prep Basketball Camps Monday through Friday. Specifically designed for the advanced basketball player who wants to play at the collegiate level, each day’s activities will include both basketball and performance training instruction. Dave Miller, former NBA/NCAA basketball coach, will be hosting his MVP Summer Basketball Camps July 13 - 17 and August 3 - 7 from 9-3 p.m. each day. The camp is for boys and girls ages 5-14 and will be held in the state of art NBA training facility at the Spectrum Athletic Club South Bay. The camp’s goal is to keep the FUN in FUNdamentals while teaching skills and drills offensively and defensively in a safe positive learning environment. Swimming is offered and extended care available until 7:30 p.m. Past guest speakers have included Derek Fisher (Lakers), Elton Brand (76ers), Paul Pierce (Celtics), Tyson Chandler (Hornets), Baron Davis (Clippers), Jannero Pargo (Lakers), Chris Kaman (Clippers), and Brian Scalabrini (Celtics).
